Paris Bennett is a convicted murderer who was sentenced to 40 years in prison for killing his four-year-old sister, Ella, in February 2007. He was 13 years old at the time of the murder.
Bennett had a troubled childhood and was reportedly having difficulties adjusting to his sister's birth. He had a history of behavioral issues and had been in and out of juvenile detention centers. On the night of the murder, his mother left him in charge of Ella while she was out. Bennett strangled and then stabbed his sister to death.
After the murder, Bennett initially lied to the police and claimed that a masked intruder had killed Ella. However, he later confessed to the murder and cited jealousy as his motive.
Bennett's case received national attention and sparked debates about whether children should be tried as adults in cases of heinous crimes. In 2010, Bennett was re-sentenced to 40 years in prison after the Supreme Court ruled that juveniles who commit murder cannot be sentenced to life in prison without the possibility of parole.
